Dear Puzzle People,
It is a joy to get outside after the long dark winter. The world is coming back to life. The birds are leading the charge, pulling ahead of the trees which have yet to leaf out.
Spring has its rituals and this week I am reminded of what the woodpeckers do. They drum but they don’t always knock on wood like you’d expect. When they can they upgrade to metal. Hammering on a chimney or gutter makes a sound that travels so much farther than an old hollow tree. Why do they do this? Mating season is just around the corner and the woodpecker fellas are marking territory, staking their claims with sound and demonstrating their robustness to any lady woodpecker within hearing.
In celebration of their lively spring ritual, here is a word search puzzle of the woodpecker species of North America.
Wishing you moments of quiet joy,
Riddle Valentine
